Claps for attention!

I find an effective classroom management technique which works particularly well at KS3 is to clap to get students’ attention! I clap a rhythm (I usually keep it simple with three straight claps but you may be more adventurous!) and the class repeat it, which grabs their attention and means we can move onto a different activity quickly.

This is particularly useful when students are discussing something and means you do not have to raise your voice over them to get their attention.
